Freedom in Christ

I had a wonderful morning praising God – started in the word: Ps 146 thru 150 – such a great time, Praise the Lord!  Then I jammed to Robin Marks music, cranking it in my store and singing away and in walks someone … oh well, I kept singing ‘Revive us!’ – had to finish the song.

I just wish all can be free in Christ … it is such a wondrous place not to be bound up with the things of this life, the lies of men and their doctrines.  The bible is full of truth and EVERYTHING we need to get through this life.  It is LIFE and it is LIVING!  The Holy Spirit makes the Word come to life – I just wish I can convey this to people, but if they’ve never experienced it, how can they understand?

I like that verse about those who endure (this life) to the end wins a crown (2 Tim 4 and 1 Tim. 4) – it’s not the reward that drives me to help others, but rather, it’s the desire to please my Father in heaven and to see the souls of men saved for eternity.  It is such a tragedy to find so many so-called Christians so luke warm (Rev. 3:15-16) and world-like and bound up with sickness, worry, depression, defeat, etc. and etc. and at the same time, they are going to church, doing ‘works’, having rallys, events, whatever, but neglecting the real work – that of being a witness of Christ’s work in their lives and bring others to Christ in a real way – not just ‘here say this prayer and you’re fine’, but rather, that of true discipleship, showing the way.

my latest ...

God seeks to destroy the works of the devil by using us (amazing as it is) regardless of how scary it is and how the situation looks.   It is unfortunate that the church as a whole, don’t like controversy and says “oh, it must not be God”, and when one goes against the grain of the established church, it may mean you get beat up and have everything taken from you (including support), because they don’t like the ‘dying’ part of the gospel.  Jesus was crucified because of controversy; Paul was beheaded because of controversy.  We, as disciples, are always put into situations and controversies to be peacemakers.  God actually sends us into the ‘battle’ to bring peace and resolve conflict.

That seems to be what is happening to us here in Fountain – we have found ourselves in 3 ‘controversial’ areas:
  • that of trying to bring peace between the downtown merchants and the city officials – we found that during the music and art festival, the merchants didn’t like the road blocked off and said it lost them business (we observe that it actually brings them new business) and the city (events committee, etc.) has several events throughout the year, including every week blocking off the street for farmer’s market.  We want to go to a city meeting and propose that the events just move down 1 block (in front of the school – none of the events conflict with the school’s operation) and have all events thereby keeping everyone happy
  • Church/family issues - so many things
  •  Parents/children/activities - almost daily resolving issues

God seems to put us in the middle wherever the enemy is working.  Well, that makes since we are supposed to be ‘warrior’s for Christ.  God tends to send us to the ‘heart’ of the matter like dysfunctional cities, churches, and families and we have to be peacemakers.  God (nor us) does not condemn or judge, but rather, to be an example.  Even Paul had to deal with things on a city level (Rome, plus others).

It’s not a job I wanted (I don’t like conflict), but God asked us to do this job.  We are obedient, no matter the circumstances.  But that is what we are here for, to help others have a better life, however we can lead or show them.
